Answers to Course 3 Review for First Semester Tests 1. 90 2. Answers will vary - One possibility: Estimate 449 to 450 and subtract this from 800.  Your answer will be 1 lower than it should be.  You get 350 when you subtract 450 from 800, so the correct answer is 350 + 1 or 351. 3. 1.384 4. 4^2 * 5^3 * 9  (In this format, "4^2" means 4 to the power of 2.  The exponent is 2.  I use "*" to mean multiplication.) 5. 43,904 6. 0.325 7. SKIP IT! 8. 74 9. 18 10. 72 11. Perimeter = 7.8cm, Area = 1.32cm^2 (remember, area is in square units!) 12. Perimeter = 27m, Area = 35m^2 13. b < 2 You should have a number line with a circle that is NOT filled in around the slash mark for 2 and a dark arrow to the left of 2 to represent all numbers on the number line less than 2. 14. SKIP IT! 15. = 16. > 17. c = -14 18. d = -4 19. 64 20. The number is -20. 21. This problem has several answers unless you wrote in Length = 8.  Then the answer would be: The area of the land is 36ft^2. 22. Line plot - you should have a number line going from 50 to 100 in groups of 5.  (Remember a jagged line represents missing data!)  There should be one "X" above the the mark for 55, two "X"'s above the mark for 65, four "X"'s above the mark for 70, three "X"'s above the mark for 75, one "X" above the mark for 80, four "X"'s above the mark for 85, one "X" above the mark for 95, and two "X"'s above the mark for 100. 23. Your stems, which represent the greatest place value and belong to the left of the vertical line, are 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.  The leaves must be in order from least to greatest and are to the right of the vertical line.  For 5, there is one leaf, 5.  For 6, the leaves are 5 and 5.  For 7, the leaves are 0, 0, 0, 0, 5, 5, and 5.  For 8, the leaves are 0, 5, 5, 5, 5.  For 9, there is one leaf, 5.  For 10, the leaves are 0 and 0. 24. The mean to the nearest tenth is 78.1%. 25. The median is 79. 26. The upper quartile is 82. 27. The lower quartile is 72. 28. The interquartile range is 10. 29. SKIP IT! 30. A square 31. A rectangle 32. They must have the same shape and size which means the same measurements for each corresponding angle and the same lengths for each corresponding side. 33.  Answers will vary.  I would draw a large triangle and then a smaller triangle with the same shape.  I would show that the correcponding angles had the same measurements. 34. SKIP IT! 35. There are only 2 players that like only hook shots. 36. -19 * 19 37. 16 38. SKIP IT! 39. 240 40. 5/12 41. 0.0000709 42. SKIP IT! 43. e = -13/22 44. f = -6 45. 5/16 46. SKIP IT! 47.
