Students in this course will consider how religions begin and how they become part of their society’s fabric. As the course name suggests, we will compare some of the major world religions and learn how they differ as well as the elements they have in common. We will think about what it means to “be religious” and what it means for a society to be characterized by religious ideas and practices. Given the current state of world affairs, we will also think about the conflict between worldviews in which religion plays a part.
