Don't forget that Parent Teacher Conferences begin this week. Please email me if a conflict arises to reschedule or you need a reminder about your appointment time. Each conference is projected to last 20 minutes to accommodate all the parents we need to see.
Finish selling your best cards and send in your money and any remaining unsold cards this week!
Last year we earned over $2,000 from our Box Top campaign. Please clip, snip, and send in your box tops. They really do make a difference!

Thank you to everyone for helping to make this year's carnival and auction a big success. You deserve a round of applause!
In math, we are focused intensely on using a variety of strategies to solve addition and subtraction sentences using word problems. The students are using number lines and hundreds charts to solve single and double digit equations. Students will also continue practicing their place value using numbers up to 1,000.

In English/Language Arts we are working dictionary skills. The students need to understand how to navigate a primary dictionary and a glossary in their text. Key vocabulary includes: guide words, entry word, pronunciation, syllables, definition.
We review daily Monday-Wednesday and having a quiz on Thursday, in addition to packet and project work.
The focus for the next two weeks in reading is POETRY. This week the students will learn the attributes and characteristics of poems and learn the different types of poems. They will also learn about different activities to do at the Poetry Station and how to categorize using a tree map. Lastly, students will learn more about breaking words into syllables as well as counting syllables in sentences/ lines.

WISE THOUGHTS TO TAKE HOME AND PONDER...
I found this poem to be so humorous since I usally have an iPod in my hand! It is required to do the reading tests!!!
My Teacher Loves Her IPod
My teacher loves her iPod.
It’s always in her ear.
She doesn’t mind it if we joke
or chat ’cause she can’t hear.
If we don’t pay attention,
she doesn’t seem to care.
Whenever she has music on,
she wears a distant stare.
Our principal dropped by one day,
and she paid no attention.
He took away her iPod,
and he sent her to detention.

Ciao for now.
