Stem Changes
1. Stem changing take places in certain verbs in all forms except the nosotros and vosotros.
Present Tense:
e-> ie = pensar those that end in:
o-> ue = recordar -iar = i->í
e-> i* = pedir -uar = u -> ú
i-> ie = querer *although some follow regular patterns
u-> ue =jugar
o-> hue** =oler
*(-ir verbs only)
** (beginning of verb)
2. Spelling changes.
-ger or -gir = g ->j corregir = corrijo (stem change and spelling change)
-guir = gu -> g (in yo form) seguir = sigo (stem change and spelling change)
-cer or cir = c -> z (in yo form) ejercer = ejerzco
-uir = i -> y (before o & e) contribuir = contribuyo
3. Irregular verbs.
decir ir ser venir
estar oír tener
4. Any verbs derived from other verbs follow the pattern of the stem.
obtener = obtengo predecir = predigo atraer = atraigo
5. Verbs with irregular YO forms.
dar = doy saber = sé hacer = hago salir = salgo
6. Other changes.
-cer and -cir (if preceeded by vowel) add z before c.
conocer = conozco conducir = conduzco nacer = nazco

*Remember that adjectives describe and pronouns replace.
1. they have singular and plural forms
2. they have masculine, feminine, and neuter forms (* there is no plural form in neuter)
3. they have special reference
Comparatives and Superlatives
1. to express inequality:
VERB + MAS + ADJ + QUE *bueno-> mejor
MENOS ADV * with numbers use de malo -> peor
NOUN grande -> mayor
pequeño -> menor
El burro es más inteligente que yo. El burro tiene más de dos patas.
Yo soy menos inteligente que el burro. Yo mejor que el burro.
El burro tiene más patas que yo. El burro es mayor que yo.
2. to express equality:
VERB + TAN + ADJ + COMO
ADV
Soy tan guapa como Madonna.
Rafáfa corre tan rapidamente como Miguel.
VERB + TANTO + NOUN + COMO
TANTA
TANTOS
TANTAS
Este salón tiene tantas sillas como los demás.
Ricardo tiene tanto dinero como yo.
VERB + TANTO COMO = as much as
Como tanto como un puerco cuando tenga hambre.
3. to express degrees of quality:

*bueno -> mejor
malo -> peor
grande -> mayor **mayor and menor refer to age of people or degree
pequeño -> menor of importance in the case of things.
Mezcal y Wiley son los gatos más divinos de todo el mundo.
Mezcal y Wiley son los más divinos.
4. to express the highest degree of quality:
-drop final vowel and add ísimo Mezcal y Wiley son divinísimos
*ble -> bil
c -> qu
g -> gu
z -> c
