DAILY ASSIGNMENTS
Tuesday, May 31--Glogster
:Introduction: Glogster is a website where you can create interactive posters, among other things. That is what we are going to be working with today. It is a great website that you can use for class projects or to enhance a presentation.
Assignment:
Glog for Another Class
Create 2 Glogs. Your first glog should be a history of Google. Do some research, find out how google started, who started it, how has it changed over the years, what are some of the special features of Google, Why do you think it is the number one search tool on the internet, etc.
For your 2nd Glog--think about a topic discussed in one of your other classes (Who knows, maybe you can get some extra-credit out of this). Maybe something like, the history of WW2, the periodic table, a biography of a president, scientist, author, a study on a particular animal, cultures around the world, etc.
If choosing a Science, Math, Stats or Business topic consider using Khan Academy website for video help
Each Glog should include:
- at least onevideo
- pics
- text--information that you researched
- appropriate wallpaper
…
Design tips: make sure you can read all your text, fill in enough information to fill up your poster, make sure text is large enough, use the same 1-2 themes throughout, meaningful wallpaper

Thursday, May 26 & Friday May 27
Objective: Students will be able to use Voki to create a character and use that character to communicate a message.
Instructions:
Voki is a website where you can create a talking, animated character. There are a variety of characters you can create, and you can even use your own voice.
Today you will be creating three Vokis. For one you will create a Voki reading your favorite poem or musical lyric. You must customize the character (change clothing, bling, hair, mouth, etc.) and choose an appropriate background. The poem or musical lyric should be long enough for your clip to be at least 30 seconds long. IT SHOULD ALSO BE SCHOOL APPROPRIATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The 2nd Voki you are going to create is a persuasive one. You are going to pick your favorite product from one of the following categories: Computer (Apple vs. Windows), Cell Phone (Iphone vs. Android), gaming system (Xbox vs. Playstation), or Automobile/Recreation vehicle. In your Voki you are going to explain why your favorite product is the best choice. You need to do research on the product to find facts that will back up your claim that it is the best choice. Simply saying “It’s better” is not a fact. The clip should be between 40-59 seconds long.
The third Voki I want you to make is a tribute to your favorite teacher (it can be one that teaches here, or one from elementary school). Explain who the teacher is and why he/she is your favorite. Of all the teachers that you could have chosen, why did you choose them?

This is a great web tool to learn as it could be very valuable as you go on with your schooling. Watch the video introduction to learn more about it./p>
Assignment: You are going to do some research and use LiveBinders to organize it. The topic for today’s research is going to be on the life of today's teenagers as compared to past genere.

Make sure the tabs are set up in way that makes it easy to find information. For each tab, you should compare 3 generations--Millennials( born between 1980--1999), Generation X (born between 1965--1979 and Baby Boomers (born between 1946--1964)
- Your 5 tabs should be:

Monday, May 23--Canva
Objective: Students will use Canva creatively for a variety of promotional/person purposes.
Introduction: Canva is a simple to use website for design. It allows you to create professional looking items, such as posters and cards, without an expensive program. Watch the video below for an introduction to this cool website:
Assignment:
When you first go to Canva it will walk you through a getting started exercise. Complete this before moving on. Once you have done that you are going to create the following four items:
- Movie Poster--A poster for a movie you’ve seen and liked. This poster should be used to attract the attention of someone that has not seen the movie before. Create a cool background, use images from the movie and/or its actors, use text to entice the viewer to watch it, use an image from the site somewhere on it as well. Do not copy a poster that has already been done for the movie. Create your own!
- Political Poster--Trump, Clinton or Sanders? --who would you vote for and why?--be sure to include relevant facts about your chosen candidate--make it persuasive as if you are trying to get others to vote your way. Do some research and include the key points from their campaign.
- Facebook cover. You can use one of the templates, but personalize it..
- Invitation--The last thing you’re going to do is create an Invite (you may have to scroll over on the “Start a new design” section). This invite is for a grand opening of a shoe store that you are going to own. You can come up with the name of the store. The date of the Grand Opening will be July 10th and it will be in Regency Mall. This invite would be used to attract potential customers to your store, so keep that in mind in your design decisions.
You can publish your products either to a pdf file, or you can submit the link to your finished products. That’s up to you. Submit these on Edmodo when done.
Pick your best work from today & post it to your Pathbrite Portfolio

PIKTOCHART
Objective: Students will understand what an Infographic is and will use Piktochart to create an infographic on a topic of their choice.
Assignment:
Look through some examples of infographics. Here are some good ones:
Top Tweeters
Why Australia?

Visit these in the Useful Links section.
To complete this assignment you will chose a topic or issue to be presented in their infographic. The goal of the infographic can be to just present some fun information about something in popular culture, can be about something like a career, or can be more serious and advocate for a particular issue or can showcase how things have changed over time, like computing, a particular word, pants designs, and so on. The choice is yours. Whatever the topic, it should be statistic driven and a topic that provides you with a lot of material to cover.
Each infographic must meet the following requirements:
- You should choose to create a blank Infographic and complete the background on your own. It is actually easier this way as sometimes changing a default layout can be tough.
have at least 2 blocks added to the length
- include a combination of words, images, graphics, and numbers (the amount of each will be determined by your topic and goals)
- use at least 3 different fonts
- include images or graphics that you have uploaded
- employ icons and graphics which enhance the infographic’s visual metaphors
- include links at the bottom to add material cited.
If you are having a hard time finding a topic, you can check out the following sites--just do a search for them:

Tuesday, May 10--Coding
Objective: Students will learn the basics of Coding while making a fun game.
There’s been a big push for students to get into computer science, as there is an abundance of jobs in this area and it will continue to grow. As a result, companies and organizations have created many opportunities for kids to dabble in this area. In December, there is something called Hour of Code Week. I know it’s not December and that the Hour of Code Week has passed, but I want you to still experience this. Today you will be working with coding on the website code.org. You will create an account and then go into two of the three lessons (Star Wars, Minecraft, or a Frozen themed lesson). The lessons combine video with hands on activities to teach you the basics of coding, then you will create your very own game that you can share with others.
Creating your own game--use the Flappy Code option on the Hour of Code website to create your own game..share it with me @ wecoury@gmail.com. Put the link to your game in Edmodo.
When you complete the lesson, take a picture of the completion certificate (you can use Awesome Screenshot for this or hit Print Screen and Ctrl-V to paste a picture of your certificate) and insert it on the Hour of Code assignment on Edmodo (you can use a Google Doc or Word document for this)--also submit the link to the game you created.
To get started look under Useful Links bellow--find the Hour of Code link, once at the site you will need to create an account. The go to the Hour of Code section--you will see Minecraft, Star Wars, and Frozen--pick 2 of the 3 to work through.. You will get a certificate upon completion, this is what you will turn in
Then find the section for Flappy Code--use this to create your game..you can share it with others in class to try if you like. Share your game with me and submit this link on Edmodo.
Monday, May 9th--QR Codes
QR Codes--today we will be creating QR codes. First thing you will need to do is download a QR reader on your phone. If you don't have a smart phone, work with someone in class who does, to make sure your codes work. Once you have downloaded a QR Reader, scan the poster I handed out to make sure it's working.
Then you should go to the link below for generating QR codes. You will be making 3 codes to be used on 3 posters. Once you decide what to link to your posters, follow the instructions below:
