Grammar Exercise 5 - Is is a complete thought?

A group of words can have a subject and a predicate (verb), and not express a complete thought. These are dependent clauses; they depend on another clause to give them meaning.

Example: Before Jack picked up the marbles.

The subject is Jack; the predicate is picked, but this clause does not express a complete thought. It needs another clause to complete its meaning.

Directions: If the group of words expresses a complete thought, select C. If the words do not express a complete thought, select N.

Example: Last week after school. N
