Syllable Stress in English Words

In English words with two or more syllables, one syllable will always have stress. REMEMBER:

1. The stressed syllable is LOUDER than the other syllables.

2. The VOWEL in the stressed syllable is clear and is held longer.

3. The stressed syllable has a HIGH pitch.

Pronounce each word and then say the sentence. Then choose which syllable in the featured word is stressed.
