Over 40% of all Spanish words are cognates to English words. Cognates are words that sound alike and have similar meanings to each other in both Spanish and English, sort of like homonyms and synonyms together. A false cognate sounds like a homonym, but it does not have the same meaning (not a synonym). Here are 50 questions for you to test your ability to pick out the Spanish cognates.
