This story was written by a third-grade girl in a school in New York City. Once upon a time there was a big tree standing next to a little tree. A little bird came along looking for a tree in which to build a nest. She spied the big tree, made a nest, and laid four little eggs. The big tree began to boast to the little tree about it and swayed its branches proudly. The little bird did not like to be swayed about and so it moved to the little tree. The little tree said to the big three, “That’s what comes of boasting.”
