The Things They Carried Quiz #7 Chapters 21-22

Throughout the novel Tim has talked about the value of telling stories. His theme is that stories save people's lives. The double meaning is that giving shape and voice to what has happened to us, no matter how traumatic it is, can save our sanity and give closure to issues that would otherwise stunt our growth. Getting our feelings out in the open can prevent our brooding about them and ruining our emotional and even physical health. Stories also save the memory of people who have died, for then we remember them, usually fondly.
