The SUBJECT of a sentence

The SIMPLE SUBJECT is the word that tells who (or what) is doing the action of the verb. In the sentence "THE HAPPY BOY SKIPPED TO SCHOOL" the word "boy" is the simple subject, because he is doing the action of the verb "skipped."
