Abbreviations

The Japanese love to use foreign words. To many, especially the youg people, it is a sign of sophistication. However, because many of the words are long and complicated, the Japanese abbreviate them -- sometimes to the extent that the speakers of the languages from which most of these words originate cannot understand them! Below are some of the most commonly abbreviated words. Do this exercise in your notebook first, then try and match the English version with the katakana version.
