9.15.517.B Finding Subjects and Verbs

Ignore all prepositional phrases so that you can isolate the simple subject and simple predicate. Ignore HERE or THERE at the beginning of a sentence as well, because you will find the subject later in the sentence.

Directions: Write the simple subject(s) and simple predicate(s), putting a comma after each subject or predicate you type. If the sentence is a command, don't forget that the simple subject to type is "you."

Example: Quicksand and rocky slopes can be dangerous to a hiker.
Answer: Quicksand, slopes, can be
