An appositive is a noun or noun phrase that clarifies the previous word/phrase and expands meaning. Remember: Nonessential--Use commas because the phrase is not needed for the sentence to make sense. Essential--Do not use commas because the appositive is needed in order for the sentence to make sense. Directions: In the space provided, type out the appositive in the sentence.
