GT 15 Homework: Comparative Modifiers and Review
Choose the correct modifier. Remember: Positive degree is used when no comparison is being made. The comparative degree is used when 2 people, things, or actions are being compared. (HINT: 2 = 2 letter ending—ER with adj.). The superlative degree is used when 3 or more people, things, or actions are being compared. (HINT: 3+ = 3 letter ending—EST with adj.). Also remember, Adjective Dependent Clauses must start with a relative pronoun -- who, whom, whose, that, and which. An adverb dependent clause must start with one of the 25 common subordinating conjunctions I told you to memorize. Use your adverb notes handout if you need. Remember: Clauses have a verb and phrases do not!! Lastly, there are 5 words that can be subordinating conjunctions or prepositions -- AS, SINCE, UNTIL, BEFORE, AFTER. Make sure you don't mistake an adverb phrase for an adverb clause.
