Commas in Sentences
RULES FOR USING COMMAS IN SENTENCES: Rule 1. Use commas to separate items in a series or list. Rule 2. Use a comma after introductory words and phrases. Rule 3. Use commas to set off nouns in direct address. Rule 4. Use commas to set off interrupting words and appositives. Rule 5. Use a comma after a depended clause that begins a sentence. Do not use a comma before a dependent clause that follows the independent clause. Rule 6. Use a comma before the conjunction in a compound sentence. Omit the comma, however, in a short compound sentence.
