Test Practice: Linking Verbs and Complements
A linking verb links the subject of the sentence with another word that renames or describes the subject. If it renames (noun or pronoun) the subject it is a PREDICATE NOMINATIVE (PN). If it describes (adjective) the subject it is a PREDICATE ADJECTIVE (PA). Tell whether the following sentences contain a predicate nominative, a predicate adjective, or no PA or PN. Remember: With the FICKLE verbs -- Feel, Look, Taste, Sound, Smell, Become, Remain, Appear, Grow, Stay, Seem, Turn -- see if you can substitute AM, IS, or ARE for the fickle verb. If you can, then the fickle verb is probably a LV!.
