Diagnostic Test on Parts of Speech (w/ Verb Tenses)
This activity is for learning purposes. Review your results after you submit this. By figuring out which parts of speech you know well, you can focus your valuable study time on brushing up on the others.
The first 12 questions focus on the tense of verbs (past, present and future) and whether they are linking verbs or action verbs.
Linking verbs link or connect the subject with something in the predicate.
(The predicate is anything that's not in the subject, usually from the verb onwards.)
Example: You sound sleepy. <-- sound links "you" with the adjective "sleepy."
Action verbs convey action, either mental or physical.
Example: Paul Revere galloped along and sounded the alarm.
Mr. Revere is doing the sounding here. See the difference?
