Effective Thesis Statements
Look at each pair of possible thesis statements below. Keep in mind the thesis statement is meant to be acceptable for a short essay. Choose the thesis statement that you think is the best based on the criteria listed in your "Rules for Writers" handbook. Remember that strong thesis statements feature ideas that require further development (not too factual), answer a question (not be a question), are the right scope for the assignment (not too broad or too narrow), and are focused (not vague).
