TA1119: Pronunciation Pairs: Unit 9 - "Unstressed syllables and Words" - ESL Lab 400B-2 - Fall II - Wednesday, 19 November 2014
In this unit we study the /ər/ sound in unstressed syllables and words. As an example, the word "letter" has the unstressed syllable at the end. The spelling of the word "letter" has been changed to lettər to emphasize when the sound is pronounced. Keep in mind that this sound is used in many unstressed syllables. Now, repeat the word "letter" five times. Pay attention to the position of your mouth and tongue as you are speaking.
