Chapter 1: What Is Technology? | Career Activity

Technology
Section 1 Career Exploration

Industrial Engineers

Background:
Like the industrial engineering technicians discussed in the text, industrial engineers look for the most efficient way to make a product or provide a service. Industrial engineers, however, have more advanced training than industrial engineering technicians, usually in the form of a bachelor’s or master’s degree. These engineers work in a wide variety of industries. Some work in hospitals, designing more efficient methods for running the emergency room or admitting patients. Others work in factories, streamlining the movements of workers or designing a system for delivering products. Successful industrial engineers have the ability to see the “big picture” and the skills to do detailed work.
