Unit 6: DNA and DNA Technology - Due 1/14/16 at 8:00 am

Learning Targets:
I can:
1. Describe the structure of DNA in terms of it’s monomers including three components of nucleotides, the 4 different nucleotides, and pyrimidines and purines.
2. Describe the structure of DNA in terms of it’s polymer including the double helix, antiparallel alignment, and nucleotide/base pairing.
3. Predict the complementary strand of a DNA molecule when given one strand of DNA.
4. Explain the role of different scientists in the discovery of the structure of DNA including Watson, Crick, Franklin, and Chargaff.
5. Identify the parts of a chromosome including DNA, proteins, and genes.
6. Describe the replication process of DNA in terms of the proteins/enzymes involved, the bonding of new nucleotides, and order of events.
7. Describe the different technology used to process and analyze DNA including PCR and Gel Electrophoresis in terms of the outcome of the technology, the molecular processes utilized in the technology (replication, breaking hydrogen bonds, electrical movement), and the use of the technology in society.
