Physician 1st Quarter 2016 Joint Surgery IRR - Case Study #2
70-year-old male with prior authorization request for right total hip arthroplasty (CPT 27130). First office visit was November 17, 2015 at which point the patient reported right hip pain since September 2015. He has difficulty with walking. Patient has been taking anti-inflammatories. Physical examination showed painful internal rotation of the right hip with restricted rotation and flexion and an antalgic gait pattern. X-rays from 9/21/15 showed severe right hip osteoarthritis with complete loss of right hip joint space.
