Physician 1st Quarter 2016 Joint Surgery IRR - Case Study #6
69-year-old male with prior authorization request for right total knee arthroplasty (CPT 27447). Patient has history of many years of progressive pain and stiffness in his right knee. He has failed conservative management including formal therapy, NSAIDS and multiple Cortisone and viscosupplementation injections over the last six months. Physical examination reveals varus alignment with no joint effusion. There's crepitation with range of motion and restricted range of motion from 5 to 110°. He has mild antalgia with the use of a cane. Recent x-rays show moderate tri-compartmental osteoarthritis with maintenance of medial and lateral joint spaces.
