Past (Preterit) Stem change e to i and o to u (pedir, preferir, repetir, dormir)
1. Take off your –IR ending
2. Inside the word you have left, E changes to an I, or the E changes to a U – BUT ONLY the él, ella, Ud., ellos, and Uds. forms
3. Add your ENDING:
yo (I) – í
tú (you)– iste
él (he), ella (she), ud./usted (you polite) – ió
nosotros (we) – imos
ellos (they), Uds./ustedes (you all) –ieron
EX: Ella _________________ dos tacos. (pedir)
Answer: pidió (your E changed to an I and then you added ió to the end)
