SER, TENER, or HAY
SER means TO BE (I am, you are, he is, we are, they are, etc.) Its forms are soy, eres, es, somos, sois, and son It is also used to tell time. TENER means TO HAVE. We use it to tell what we HAVE and also with age to tell how many years (años) we ´have´. Its forms are tengo, tienes, tiene, tenemos, tenéis, tienen HAY means THERE IS and THERE ARE. For example: ¿Hay un examen hoy? = Is there a test today? Hay veinte estudiantes en esta clase. = There are 20 students in this class. Use ¨hay¨ to say ´there is/ there are´ Use ´no hay´ to say ¨there isn´t¨ or ¨there aren´t¨
