Students will be able to understand chemical bonding and chemical interactions in order to:
1. Describe how ionic, covalent, and metallic bonds form and provide examples of each;
2. Predict the type of bond between two elements in a compound based on their position in the periodic table;
3. Name and write formulas for simple binary compounds containing a metal and nonmetal using representative elements from Groups 1-2 and 13-18 and compounds involving common polyatomic ions: ammonium, acetate, chlorate, nitrate, hydroxide, carbonate, sulfate, phosphate;
4. Name and write formulas for binary compounds of two nonmetals using Greek prefixes (mono-, di-, tri-, tetra-, etc.).
