Belief, Fact, Hypothesis, Theory, and Law
One of the most difficult things for students and non scientists to get straight are the terms: Belief, Fact, Hypothesis, Theory, and Law. This exercise consists of a series of statements. Mark each statement as Belief (B) , Fact (F), Hypothesis (H), Theory (T), and Law (L). Fact: A basic statement established by experiment or observation. All facts are true under specific conditions. Some facts may be false when re-tested with better instruments. Belief: A statement that is not scientifically probable. An opinion or conviction that is not immediately susceptible to rigorous proof
