Is the sentence a misplaced modifier, a dangling modifier, or correct? A dangling Modifier occurs when the intended subject being described is missing from the sentence altogether. Examples: Incorrect: When in fifth grade my uncle Louis studied to become a doctor. Correct: when I was in fifth grade, my uncle Louis studied to become a doctor. A misplaced Modifier is a word, phrase, or clause that is too far away from the word it modifies or describes. Examples: Incorrect: Melaine saw a dog on the way to the rock concert. Correct: On her way to the rock concert, Melanie saw a dog.
