WELCOME TO PIZITZ LADY PIRATES' GOLF!

Link #8 below has Frequently Asked Questions about the golf team. Please email me if you have a question that is not covered.

Some information about the 2009 Lady Pirates' Golf season-

1. The team ladder (who plays 1st position, 2nd position, etc.) will be determined by 1) score on golf rules test that will be given during 8th period in my classroom 2) prior experience playing golf 3) scores that they have from practice rounds. Please bear in mind that we are one of only a few middle schools in our area that offer girls' golf. As as result, our competition is limited. Also, some teams only have 2 or 3 members. That means that some of the team members will not play other schools, but I intend to schedule matches among the members. Remember, our goal is for the girls' to learn golf-more importantly-to learn to love golf. Being a part of the team should be a rewarding experience for your daughter.

2. The goal of the Pizitz Lady Pirates' Golf Team is to allow girls to learn as much as they can about golf before they go to the high school. This goal has been successfully met in the past years. Last year's team won a 2nd place golf trophy for Pizitz.

3.I work with all of the girls who participate in Winter sports, cheerleader, dance team, annual staff, etc. so that they can continue their other activities that also take place at various times during the golf season.

4.Practices begin at the end of school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and take place at the Vestavia Country Club. Please read the information below about golf dress. The dress code for golf is set by the Professional Golf Association and the golf clubs. Team members must adhere to the dress code. You will be given informatation later about ordering our team shirt, etc.

Each team member is required to have a set of clubs for practice. They can borrow from someone if they don't own clubs. They cannot share from the same bag during practice.

Soft-spiked golf shoes must be worn at all times on the golf course. No hard-spiked shoes are allowed!

As mentioned above, practices will be on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of the week. We do not practice on Monday, Friday, or the weekends. Our matches will be scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, if possible. Our schedule will not be set until later. I will post the schedule on this webpage and send a copy home.

Our informational meeting will be Wednesday, February 25, 2009 during 8th period in room 203.
Practices will begin the first week of March (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after school).
The Rules Test will be Friday, February 27, 2009.

Our golf match schedule is listed on the school athletic events calendar that is on the Pizitz Middle School web page.

The ASHAA allows middle school golf teams to play no more than 8 regular season matches.

Please study the rules of golf using the links below.

Also, the golf dress code that is required at all of the golf clubs where we play our matches is listed below.

LADIES GOLF DRESS CODE-(from the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Birmingham Website)
Slacks, capris, “Bermuda” length shorts; must be hemmed. No jeans, short short (or short skorts) including cutoffs, tennis shorts, bathing suits, etc., will be tolerated.
"Bermuda" length skorts can be worn if they are no more that 3-4 inches above the top of the knee.

The dress code will be strictly enforced. Any player not meeting these standards will be asked to remedy the situation prior to play. If you have any doubts as to what dress will be accepted, please ask any LPGA-USGA Girls Golf instructor.

LPGA-USGA Girls Golf (and Pizitz Lady Pirate's Golf) believe that the correct attire for golf is as important as the rules or excellence of play.
