A big thank you to the parents who came and shared with our class by reading to us. The children really enjoyed hearing from each of you.
We began learning about topics relating to space last week. We will continue to learn, read and write about space topics this week. We will finish up our space unit with each child sharing their space report on Friday.
Please, Please check your student's notebook each night. I check each day for notes, money and initials on the calendar. Also, please complete reading homework each night. The student's that continue to practice their reading skills are able to grow as readers.
Reading:
We continue learning about making inferences while we read. We will read some fiction and nonfiction text about space this week. We will also look at different long a combinations such as "ay", "ae" and "ai".
Our "Bazinga" words this week come from the book. Our words for this week are:
We will not have Bazinga words this week. We are using our Bazinga words in a literacy station!
Math:
We will continue our unit on measurement. We will study how we measure time.
Language Arts/Writer's Workshop:
We will continue to work in our W.O.W. assignments. We will work on developing "hooks" for our writing. We will begin a new writing assignments telling about an imaginary trip to space.
Science/Theme
This week we will continue our science unit of space. We will explore the "Final Frontier". This is one of my favorite themes. We will complete a science lab about the phases of the moon.
