Family
Safety Day Planned for March 23:
“Be a Survivor: Katy Safety Challenge, Fun for the Whole Family” is
scheduled for Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Katy ISD Council of
PTAs is hosting the free event for the community at Cinco Ranch Junior High,
with the goal of improving safety awareness for all Katy families.
The
Challenge will include a wide variety of fun activities for all ages, each with
a focus on safety. Bike Rodeos, bicycle inspections, Safety Town, and
skateboarding demonstrations are planned.
Wearing
“Fatal Vision” virtual reality goggles, participants may drive a small
electric car through a DWI Awareness Obstacle Course. The goggles simulate the
influence of alcohol and/or drugs on the driver’s ability to safely operate a
motor vehicle.
The
day will also include entertainment, food and soft drinks.
For
more information, please contact Corporal B.J. Hegemeyer with the Katy ISD
Police Department at 281-396-6220 or bhegemeyer@admin.katy.isd.tenet.edu.
To
create a successful event, volunteers will be needed from each campus. If you
would like to help, please notify Williams PTA Youth Protection Chairperson Cris
Bowden at 281-693-6705 or dcbowden@flash.net. A sign-up sheet is
available at the greeter’s desk.
Community
organizations wishing to be a part of the Katy Safety Challenge should contact
Debbie Godfrey, President of Katy ISD Council of PTAs, at godfrey@fbcc.com
or 281-395-8882.
Masterpiece
Art:
Presentations for Masterpiece Art will begin on February 11 and go through
February 18. The American artist Frederic Remington will be featured. He did
many western illustrations and paintings. He also did bronze work. We are in
need of a replica of any of his bronze pieces. If you have one to loan for the
art classroom presentations or know of a source for one, please call Susan
Schneider, Masterpiece Art Coordinator at 395-3362.
Congratulations
GT Knowledge Master:
Congratulations to our JWE fifth grade GT Knowledge Master team which placed
second in Texas. The members are: Amanda Bullwinkel, Oliver Hatfield, Eric
Hornby, Regan Jones, Alexandra Landis, Chris Moseley, Andrew Petry, Jordan
Sawyer, Boying Shui, and Brittany Svab. JWE’s other GT fifth grade Knowledge
Master team participants are: Danielle Chester, Will Dubuisson, Kevin Jones,
Bobby Kiesewetter, Natasha Nazari, Eric Perez, Greg Thorne, Sara Whitehead, and
Kristopher Keiser.
Knowledge
Master is a competition for grades 5-12 and is performed through the computer at
school. In elementary there are 100 curriculum-based questions that represent 4
cognitive levels: knowledge, comprehension, application and analysis. Our GT
fifth graders competed with other Texas schools as well as schools nationally.
Both
teams have worked hard in class to prepare and are looking forward to our next
competition in March.
Awesome

Hey, parents and good mates of our Cinco Ranch High School Seniors, put on your
Outback casual and join us for dinner and dancing at the “Awesome Aussie
Extreme” on Wednesday, February 20, 2002, 7-9 p.m. at the Golf Club at Cinco
Ranch. Cost is $50 per person and includes dinner and dessert (which have
generously been donated by Outback Steak House), dancing, and silent auction.
There’s no need to hike to the Outback, valet parking will be available for
$2. All ticket sales and auction proceeds are tax deductible and benefit CRHS
Project Graduation 2002. To donate silent auction items or for more information
on reserved seating and tickets, call Becky Vogel at 395-5489. See you in the
Outback, mate!
