John and Lorraine are sophomores who meet an old man, named Mr. Pignati during one of their “phone marathons.” They go over to his house one day, and they find how nice of a person he is. As time goes by they grow closer to Mr. Pignati. Throughout the story there are dramatic changes altering their perceptions of each other for the better and the worse.
