Persuasion or Explanation?

The goal of persuasion is to affect a change in the audience's thoughts or actions. In order to persuade an audience, an author tries to manipulate the audience's logic, emotions, and morals. If the audience does not agree with the author, then the author has failed.

The goal of explanation is to help an audience understand the author's thesis. Whether or not that occurs does not mean that they author hasn't been successful.

Choose which of the following statements is intended to persuade or explain. While it is sometimes impossible to divine one's motives, practicing can help develop this skill.
