In German it's important to know what the SUBJECT and DIRECT OBJECT are in the sentence because that affects how the German words for the, a, my, etc. will look. The SUBJECT is in the NOMINATIVE CASE and the DIRECT OBJECT is in the ACCUSATIVE CASE. In the sentence, The man bit the dog, Who did the biting? The answer is the man. The man is the SUBJECT (Nominative Case). What did the man bite? The dog, so the dog is the DIRECT OBJECT (Accusative Case). Draw lines to indicate whether the word in CAPS is in the NOMINATIVE CASE (Subject) or ACCUSATIVE CASE (Direct Object).
