ESOL - BV Unit 1 Lesson 1

Latin Prefix “ad-“ = to, toward, add to

You will notice that not all words begin with “ad”. This is due to assimilation which means that if they are hard to pronounce at the beginning of a word, then the words undergo a spelling change. For example, “adgressor” is hard to pronounce so the second consonant “g” is doubled to make the pronunciation smoother.

Practice the prefix ad, learn the meaning of the roots and put them together to learn the new words! Then play Hangman for Building Vocabulary Unit 1 Lesson 1 to learn how to spell the new words. If you are using Voiceover on the Ipad, be sure to click on "Play the HTML version".
