Parts of the Microscope

eyepieceContains the ocular lens, or the lens that is closest to the eye.
nosepieceHolds the 3 objective lenses. It can be rotated, or turned, to change the magnification.
objective lenses3 lenses with different powers of magnification that range from 4X to 40X.
armUsed to support the microscope when it is moved or carried.
coarse objective knobThe BIG knob that moves the stage up and down for focusing on a specimen.
stageFlat surface where a slide is placed for viewing.
stage clipsHold a slide in place to make viewing a specimen easier.
fine adjustment knobThe SMALL knob that moves the stage slightly to sharpen an image's focus.
diaphragmHole under stage that allows light to pass through a slide. It can be rotated or moved to change the amount of light that comes through.
light sourceAllows light to shine up through the diaphragm and onto a specimen.
baseSupports the microscope, and should be held when moving or carrying the microscope.
