Parts of Speech

Students will match the part of speech with the correct definition.

Nounnames a person, place0, thing, or idea
Interjectionexpress emotion or feeling, usually set apart with an exclamation point or comma.
Collective Nounsa special type of noun used to name a group or people, places, or things
Compound Nouna noun that is made up of more than one word working together to name one type of people, places, things or ideas. Sometimes these are hyphenated, or have a space in the middle of them.
Common Nounnames any one of a class of people, pl.aces, or things-not an anyway specific.
Proper NounNames a specific person, place, thing, or idea. This is always capitalized.
Pronountakes the place of a noun

Action Verba word that ells what action someone or something is performing, has performed or will perform
Transitive VerbA verb that takes an object or transfers its action to an object
Intransitive VerbA verb that does not direct its action to an object.
Linking VerbA verb that connects a word at or near the beginning of a sentence with a word at or near the end of the sentence
Helping VerbA verb that can be added to another verb to make a verb phrase

Conjunctive Adverban adverb that works as a conjunction to connect complete ideas
