| External Conflict | a character's problem with some outside source |
| Imagery | pictures created through the use of descriptive words, sensory words or figurative language |
| Flashback | an interruption in the present action of a story that explains what happened at an earlier time |

| Plot | a series of related events that make up a story |
| Prose | ordinary writing using sentences and paragraphs |
