| noun | a person, place or thing. These are common nouns: ball, girl |
| proper noun | names a particular person, place or thing & is always capitalized. eg. John, Cuba |
| singular noun | tells about 1 person, place or thing. ex. boy |
| plural noun | tells about more than 1 person, place, or thing. |
| possessive noun | shows ownership by adding 's to the noun. boy's hat |
| plural possessive noun | add 's to the singular fom. boys', dogs' |
| verb | shows action - run or being-is. |
| helping verb | verb used with another verb- is watching |
| regular past tense verb | add 'ed'- walked |
| irregular verb | does not form its past tense by adding d or ed- eg. rode |
| linking veb | links or connects the subject with a noun, pronoun, or adjective. am, is are, was, were, will be |
| past tense | shows an action has happened. Mary skated. |
| future tense | shows an action that will happen. Mary will skate. |
| pronoun | takes the place of a noun. "He" is tired. |
| singular pronoun | takes the place of singular noun. I, me you, he, she, it, him, her |
| plural pronoun | takes the place of a plural noun. we, us, you, they, them |
| subject pronouns | takes the place of a noun(s) in the subject of the sent. I, you,he, she it we, you , they. |
| object pronouns | me, you, him, her, it, us, you, them. |
| possessive pronouns | show possession or ownership by the speaker, person or thing spoken to. |
