| Disk Drive (a: or b:) | A computer unit that reads from and writes onto disks. |
| Network Drive (h:) | A drive space created for each student to store files on that is located on PFHS's network. |
| Keyboard | Input device for entering alphabetic, numeric, and symbols as well as special keys for entering commands. |
| Printer | Computer hardware device used to create a "hard" copy of a document. |
| Left shift key | Used to make a capital letter typed with the right hand. |
| Right shift key | Used to make a capital letter typed with the left hand. |
| Space bar | Struck with the right thumb to create a space. |
| Arrow keys | Moves the insertion point (cursor) up, down, and to the sides. |
| Delete key | Erases text to the right of the insertion point and is used to remove multiple lines of text or a file. |
| Enter key | Typed with right pinkie to go down to the next line. |
| Typing by touch | Typing without looking at your keyboard. |
| Escape key | Exits a menu or dialog box in word processing software. |
| Backspace key | Typed with right pinkie to move back and delete a space to the left of the cursor. |
| Home keys | ASDF JKL; spacebar enter. There are, according to your text, 10 of these keys! |
| Anchor keys | AF J; You anchor for reaches with the pinkies and the first fingers. |
| RAM | Memory/stores data. |
| Software | Computer programs. |
| Hardware | Computer devices (such as--mouse, monitor, keyboard, printer). |
| Cursor | A blinking line that shows you where you are typing. |
| Alphanumeric keys | Central portion of the keyboard. |
| Mouse | Pointing device, input device |
| Computer | Known now as the tower or CPU--stores data including software. |
| Number lock | Activates numeric keypad. |
| Alt key (alternate key): | Used with another key to execute a function; command keys next to the space bar. |
| Tab key | Moves the cursor to a preset position. |
| Control Key | Command key, used with another key. |
| Caps Lock | Used to capitalize multiple letters |
| CPU | Central processing unit, the internal operating unit, including the processing unit, memory chips, etc. |
| Numeric Keypad | Calculator type keys used for entering statistical data. To turn the keypad on, press the Numlock key. |
| Function Keys | Perform a software function/control. |
| Insert key | Toggles the software between insert mode overtype/overstrike mode. |
| Modem | A computer connection to the telephone. |
