Soil even made its way to Boston, NYC, Chicago, Washington D.C., and onto ships hundreds of miles into the Atlantic!
Dust BowlYears of overgrazing and over plowing had killed off the grass that held together plains soil. Windstorms carried the dry, dead earth into the sky. Througout the 1930's, the windstorms carried away the hopes of thousands of families and farmers as their cattle died, drought took over, and their lungs were filling with dust.

OkiesNickname for many dust bowl refugees because so many of them came from Oklahoma.
