| receptacle | The part of the flower that the pistil and stamens grow out of. |
| root | Underground part of the plant that help hold the plant up and bring in food and water. |
| seed | A packaged little plant with food around it (endosperm) and a covering protecting it (seed coat). |
| seed coat | The protective outer layer of a seed. |
| sepal | Parts that look like little green leaves that cover the outside of a flower bud to protect the flower before it opens. |
| stamen | The male part of the flower. Made up of the anther and filament. |
| stigma | The female part of the flower. Sticky bulb in the center of flower where pollen lands. |
| style | Another female part of the flower. This is the long stalk that the stigma sits on top of. |
| xylem | Cells that move water in plants. |
| phloem cells | Move food down the stem to other parts of the plant. |
| monocot | Plant that has only one cotyledon. Ex. = corn |
| ovary | The part of a plant, usually at the bottom of the flower, that has the seeds inside and turns into the fruit we eat. |
| ovule | The part of the ovary that becomes the seed. |
| pistil | Female part of the flower. |
| plumule | The part of an embryo that turns into the shoot of a plant. |
| pollination | The moving of the pollen from the anther to the stigma. |
| primary taproot | A root with few branches that is very thick and swollen. Ex.=carrots |
