| Tell the story of why Constantinople had to be rebuilt | After the rioting between the two chariot teams, the greens and the blues, Justinian realized Constantinople had to be rebuilt to make it safer and more sheltered. He protected the city by building a triple line of walls along the edge and a single line along the harbor. Beyond the walls, he also dug out a 22 foot deep moat and filled it with water. He also modernized the city by establishing a fire department, adding a sewer and water system and putting in street lights. He also improved the city by adding public and private baths, theaters, palaces and churches. |
