| Alignment | The placement of text relative to the margins. |

| Widow | A single line of a paragraph which appears at the bottom of a page or column. |
| Clipboard | A temporary storage area that holds text and graphics. When text or a graphic ic "cut" or "copied," it is "placed" by the software on the clipboard. Whatever is in the clipboard can be pasted into the current publication. |
| Font | A set of characters in one style and one size of one typeface. |
| Widow | A single line of a paragraph which appears at the bottom of a page or column. |
| Handles | The "dots" surrounding a selected object indicating that it is in edit mode. |
| Orphan | A single line of a paragraph which appears at the top of a page or column. |
| Column | A vertical section of a page. |
| Rotate | The act of turning a graphic or text to different positions. |
| I-Beam | This indicates current position in the open file where text will be inserted or corrections can be made. |
| Drawing Tools | The items in the toolbox (line, shape, pencil, paint bucket, eraser, etc). used to create lines, boxes, and circles. |
| Portrait | Paper positioned so that it is taller than it is wide. The page orientation where text/graphics print across the shorter dimension of the page. |
| Layout | The arrangement of text and images on a page. |
| Crop | The act of "cutting" part of the graphic image. |
| Paste | The process of returning text or graphics to the page after they have been cut from a previous location. |
| Drag | The act of moving the mouse while holding down the mouse button. |
| Import | The process of bringing text or graphics into an application from another source. |
| Default | A preset condition of the software, which the software uses if no other option is selected. |
| White Space | The blank space between text and graphics on a page. |
| Cut | The process of removing text or a graphic from its location. |
| Masthead | The information included in the top portion of a newsletter: the newlsetter's title, intended audience, division or organization publishing the document, volume and/or issue number and the current date of the issue. |

| Justified | A text alignment option in which the text is aligned at both the left and right margins. |
