Use these games to study literary terms.

PERSONIFICATIONDescribes something non-human as if it had human qualities.
PUNA phrase that uses words in a way that gives them a funny effect. The words used in a pun often sound the same but have different meanings.
HYPERBOLEAn exaggerated statement.
ALLITERATIONThe repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of words.
SATIREA literary tone used to ridicule or make fun of human vice or weakness, often with the intent of correcting or changing the subject of the satiric attack.
STEREOTYPEA pattern or form that does not change. A character is "stereotyped" if he or she has no individuality and fits the mold of that particular kind of person.
STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESSA style of writing in which the thoughts and feelings of the writer are recorded as they occur.
OXYMORONA technique in which two words with opposite meanings are put together for a special effect, as in "jumbo shrimp."
ALLUSIONA reference to a well-known person. place, thing, or event that the writer assumes the reader will be familiar with.
METAPHORA figure of speech that compares two different things without using like or as.
ASSONANCEThe repetition of vowel sounds in words.
CONSONANCEThe repetition of consonant sounds anywhere in words, not just at the beginning.
