Excel Terms - Chapters 2 & 3

Terms you should know from chapters 2 & 3 of Excel.

Fill HandleThe lower right hand corner of the active cell - allows you to copy or complete a series.
AutoFitThe feature that resized a column to fit the longest entry when you double click the column divider on the column header.
CTRL-1The shortcut key to bring up the Format Cells dialog box.
Merge & Center buttonWill center a title over the selected area & combine the cells.
Left AlignedThe default alignment for text values.
Right AlignedThe defalut alignment for number values.
OperandsThe values or references to cells in a formula or function.
OperatorsThe symbols that indicated the type of calculation that will take place in a formula. (+, -, *, /)
AscendingThe sort order which arranges values from the smallest value to the largest.
DescendingThe sort order that arranges values from the largest to the smallest.
A large arrow pointerThe mouse pointer that is used to move or copy cell values using drag-n-drop.
CTRLThe key you hold while dragging to copy instead of move.
RelativeA reference type that when copied, the cell references change relative to the cell from which the formula is being copied.
MixedA reference type that always refers to either a specific row or a specific column. ($A1) Or (A$1)
AbsoluteA reference type that always refers to a specific CELL. ($A$1)
AutocompleteA feature of Excel that will fill in the rest of a word when you begin typing it - it if is already in the column.
Freeze PanesA command in Excel that will allow you to scroll a large worksheet while still viewing the column & row headings.
SubTotal CommandA command on the Data menu that will allow you to add subtotals and create an Outline of large amounts of data in Excel.
ShiftKey that you hold while clicking tabs of sheets to select multiple ones to spell check.
ToolsMenu on which you can find the spell check command.
