Minimal Pairs with the /I/ and /iy/ Vowel Sounds

English learners often have a difficult time discriminating between the /I/ sound as in "bit" and the /iy/ sound as in "beat".

Both sounds are made with your tongue high in the front of your mouth.

The /I/ sound is relaxed so drop your jaw down when you say it. The /iy/ sound is tense so pull your lips back when you say it.

Choose the minimal word pairs with /I/ and /iy/ sounds. Be sure to pronounce each word aloud!
