numeratorThe number written above the fraction bar of a fraction. It represents how many parts of a total there are.
denominatorThe number written below the fraction bar in a fraction. It represents the number of equal parts into which a whole is divided.
fractionA ratio, in which the two numbers are related in a part-to-whole relationship.
percentPercent means "out of 100." We can use the percent symbol (%) as a handy way to write a fraction with a common denominator of 100.
mixed numberA Mixed Fraction is a whole number and a fraction combined as one term.
differenceThe answer of a subtraction is known as the difference.
sumSummation is the addition of a set of numbers; the result is their sum or total.
simplifyUsed to make a mathematical problem easier to solve, and understand. Combining like terms is a common way to simplify an expression.
less thanIn mathematics, an inequality is a statement about the relative size or order of two objects.
compareUsed to judge similarities between dissimilar things.
proper fractionA fraction whose numerator is smaller then the denominator. It represents an amount less than 1.
improper fractionA fraction whose numerator is larger then the denominator. It represents an amount greater then 1.
equivalent formsTwo terms having the same value.
least common multipleThe smallest positive integer that is a multiple of both a and b. Since it is a multiple, it can be divided by a and b without a remainder.
place valueThe value of a position of a digit in a number
hundredthsWhen something is divided into 100 equal parts.
decimalNumbers and arithmetic based on the number ten, tenth parts, and powers of ten
PEMDASWhen expressions have more than one operation, we have to follow rules for the order of operations: Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction. The mnemonic PEMDAS is used to help remember the correct order.
common factorFactors that are common to two or more numbers are said to be common factors.
tenthsWhen something is divided into ten equal parts.
