clickTo move the pointer to an object and briefly tap the mouse button.
close boxA small square at the left end of a window's title bar.
desktopOn the Finder screen, it's the area below the menu bar
double-clickTo click the same object twice in quick succession.
dragTo move the pointer while holding down the mouse button.
fileThe basic unit of usable information stored on a disk.
folderA collection of files.
highlightTo change the appearance of icons, text, windows, and other objects, often by reversing the dark and bright portions.
iconA small picture or symbol standing for something.
keyboardA device for entering text into the computer.
menuA list of commands.
menu barThe row across the top of the Macintosh screen. It contains the names of all menus available in the current program.
monitorA high-quality video screen for use with a computer
mouseA hand-held device that, when moved over a smooth surface, sends information to the computer about its motion.
mouse buttonA push button on the upper surface of a mouse.
pointerA small arrow or other shape on the screen that is used to select or highlight objects.
pressTo hold the mouse button down while the pointer is over an object.
selectTo choose an object on the screen, often by pointing and clicking with the mouse.
title barThe top part of a window. It contains the name of the window. When a window is selected, it is highlighted with stripes.
windowA rectangular area on the screen where the information in a folder is displayed.
command keyThe key on either side of the space bar on the iMACs.
insertion pointA small, blinking vertical bar that shows where text will appear on the screen if the user begins typing.
scroll barA horizontal or vertical bar along the edge of a window which allows the user to bring hidden parts of a folder to view on the screen.
scroll boxA rectangular box in a scroll bar that stands for the part of a file currently visible in the selected window.
shift-clickTo click an object while the SHIFT key is held down.
size-boxA small icon at the lower right corner of a window which allows the user to change the width and height of a window
